“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; but fools despise wisdom and instruction”
Maybe some of us feel sad because we can not go to school, bored because we have to learn online from home, miss our friends and also feel lazy after the holidays. But don’t let it make us discouraged to learn again. Today we start the school again in the new semester and we will begin it by having reflection taken from Proverbs 1: 7.
King Solomon is the writer of Proverbs. He was famous as a wise king. He could be wise because he studied hard. Most importantly, because he asked wisdom from God. He was the king who obeyed God’s commands. He was also the king who built the temple of God. Why did he write “the fear of God is the beginning of knowledge? Do you know what it means? Is it like we are afraid of the dark or afraid to leave the house because of the Corona virus? Certainly not like that. Fear of God means respect and obey God.
Now the question is what is the example of respect and obey God? Can we do it in our daily life? There are many things we can do as examples of showing obedience to God. First, is to always remember praying to give thanks for every blessing from God. Second, respect to parents, especially when we learn from home, we must listen to parents and follow rules at home. Last, keep our spirit to study even though we learn from home. We shouldn’t be lazy to study with a reason that we don’t go to school. You can choose to be a smart person or a fool who despises wisdom and education.
What is the benefit of having wisdom and being wise like Solomon? We will be a blessed children of God and we become people who can distinguish between good and evil deeds. So that in the future we become good people who live according to God’s will and we can achieve our goals. So kids, keep your spirit to study in the new semester, in a new class. Don’t give up even though you are studying at home. Still rely on God, because God is the source of knowledge.
